I remember that in this period I had a great curiosity in knowing the habits and customs of women of the ancient past and in this painting I wanted to represent a moment of sociality between women of the past.
In the representation we can perceive, on the one hand the dialogue (the two female figures in the foreground) while on the other the absorbed thought (the woman behind) and extraneous to the conversation that wanders around its shores, regardless of the general chatter (today we would say "gossip").
Compared to modern times, I presume that not much has changed in the substance of everyday gestures other than the form (today we have information technology available more possibility of socializing thanks to greater mobility), but the feelings (love, generosity, envy, hatred, presumption) have remained as they are, given that the human brain always responds to the same basic criteria.
This painting is also preserved in my home as a reminder of a fruitful period of curiosity towards the history of women's society in ancient times.
It keeps me a lot of company (along with the other paintings that I have left and which I did not want to donate) and reminds me of my study path of a certain historical period.
