The thinking Jesus
In this painting I tried to imagine Jesus Christ in a moment of deep reflection, as if, from high above, he was observing the unfolding of life in our little world.
I tried to enter his thoughts, wondering what his state of mind could be in front of the history of humanity, of everything that has happened in the two thousand years since his crucifixion.
The face appears absorbed, suspended in a silent and universal meditation. The closed eyes do not seem to indicate detachment, but a deep, almost painful internal concentration.
The position of the head, slightly bowed, suggests a form of perplexity, perhaps of bitterness, perhaps of disappointment in front of a world which, despite the time that has passed, seems not to have yet fully understood the meaning of his sacrifice.
Its is not a condemnation, but a warning.
It is an invitation to look inside ourselves, to recognize our responsibilities, our fragilities, our faults. In this silent face we perceive a spiritual warning: the need to undertake a personal journey of awareness, penance and inner improvement.
As I painted this work, the initial message became clearer and clearer. The face took shape and, together with him, the idea of a non-judgmental, but thinking Christ grew; not distant, but deeply involved in the destiny of man.
The thinking Jesus thus becomes an image of great emotional intensity: it does not just represent a sacred figure, but a presence that questions those who observe it.
A face that does not speak, but forces us to think.
