Joker between beauty and anxiety
In this painting Joker does not appear as a simple masked figure, but as an intense psychological presence, suspended between beauty and anxiety. The face emerges from a soft and enveloping fuchsia cloud, as if taking shape from a disturbing thought, an ambiguous dream or a sudden vision.
The strength of the work comes from the contrast between the subject and the atmosphere that surrounds it. Joker carries with him the recognizable signs of his identity: the pale face, the strong makeup, the red nose, the sharp smile and the green eyes, intense and penetrating.
